So here are some of the questions that we’re trying to get answered in preparation for our little public gaming “course” days and event.

How do we get individuals in the door that:

a. have preconceptions of gaming such as; gaming is a waste of time, gaming is for blokes, or games are boring.

b. have a stigma regarding net cafes.

c. have no network that “fully” support their gaming activity.

We’ve been talking about our marketing and we’re questioning whether the support of a fashion magazine, such as Eurowoman (Danish magazine), would provide the angle needed to interest potential public female gamers?

Eurowoman and Hummel (clothing) have already had success with their Women’s Street Football Tournament here in Copenhagen. This tournament is just blossoming moving into its 3rd season, and has put the word out there that women’s active use of leisure, in this case, through team sports can be social, dynamic, and above all fun, endorsing that active social leisure consumption, or what I like to call “pick-up-game” culture, is something that is not strictly reserved for males.

… we’ll see how accepted a social activity such as gaming is soon enough – the sponsor call is on the way…

2 months and counting…

January 10, 2006

… that is 2 months left until blast off of the LetzPlay project, I thought that a bit of dilly dallying would be the best way to use my time.
A minimilastic brief of LetzPlay might be: An activity arranged for women to get hands on experience with gaming – the aim is, in a nutshell, to improve women’s and girls association, self-confidence, and competency with computers. The event is targeting women who are “newbies” to computer gaming. (A fuller description can be accessed from our site http://www.edu-art.dk/html/let_play.htm)
The next two months are filled with fundraising and co-ordination of the 4 events. Me (Emma) and my project partner (Tina) are looking forward to the first event day in March – where we have 30 computers at Boomtown, a  netcafé located in Copenhagen, reserved for us. We’re even more excited about the final event, where we have the whole netcafé reserved, all 120 computers, just for women, to just PLAY!
I’ll be posting how the 4 events turn out here, and any other notes along the way might also find their way to this page.
